Studio Policies



A leotard, tights and the proper dance shoes must be worn to all classes. Students may wear a ballet skirt for ballet or dance shorts for all other classes over their leotards if they wish. Loose fitting clothing can be worn over leotards to hip-hop classes only. No jeans, khakis or restrictive clothing allowed. All students must wear their hair off their face in a ponytail or a bun. Dancers who do not have the proper dress code may not be allowed to participate in class.


Below please find a list of dance shoes to wear for each subject. Shoes and other attire are available for sale at the studio.

A $20 non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of sign-up to hold your spot in the class of your choice. A $10 registration fee is required for each additional sibling. Any student joining classes after October 1st will be responsible for additional recital fees.


At the time of registration a non-refundable security deposit of 1/2 a month of tuition is due in order to enroll in classes. The security deposit will be applied to your last month’s tuition in June. If you decide to leave On the Barre, two weeks written notice is required. Your security deposit will be applied to those two weeks if you decide to leave. If you decide to stay for the entire dance year, you owe the other half of your security deposit as your June tuition.


Monthly tuition amounts (with the exception of our Adult & Tiny Tots classes) include dance lessons, recital costumes, a recital t-shirt and tights, and 1 recital DVD per family. Tuition is due the first class day of every month. Monthly bills will not be sent home. Any payment received after the 15th of the month is subject to a $20 late fee and an invoice will be sent first via email and then by mail. Tuition rates and payments are based on Ten Installments and are not affected by the specific number of classes that meet during any given month. For example: some months have 5 classes, some months have 3; monthly tuition is always the same. There are no refunds or reductions given based on holidays, vacations or absences. You are welcome to attend a make-up class in or below your child’s level for any missed classes if one is available. Any returned checks will be subject to a $20 bank fee. We do not take post-dated checks. Lessons will be suspended for any account with more than 2 months of unpaid tuition. Monthly invoices will be sent via email on the 1st of each month. We accept online payments by card or check, and in person payments by cash, card, or check.

Semi-annual and annual payment plans are available. Save 10% when you pay for the year’s tuition in full before August 1st. There are NO refunds or exchanges for year in full payments. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and debit cards for your convenience. Auto-pay programs are also available. We offer a $10 monthly sibling discount for multiple children of the same family enrolled in classes. All sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges for any payments made to On the Barre.


Adult classes are not all-inclusive, and therefore do not require a security deposit. Cost is $15/drop-in or $105/8-class punch card. Cards are only punched when you are present. A $20 registration fee per year is required to enroll.  We offer a $10 off per session discount for parents of OTB children taking classes.


Our Tiny Tots program does not participate in our all-inclusive tuition. Monthly rates are $52 per month. Our Tiny Tots have a year end, in-studio performance  in May to get them ready for the “big stage” the following year. A $45 fee will be due by April 15th to cover the cost of their recital tutu, tights, and tiara.


If the public schools are closed, please do not assume the studio is as well. A recording will be left on the studio’s answering machine at least one hour before the start of classes. There will be no refunds for missed classes due to weather related cancellations, and make-up classes are encouraged in your child’s same age level/different subject or different age level/same subject class. If more than 2 of the same classes are missed due to weather, a make-up class will be scheduled, but only if time and teacher schedules permit.


Good attendance is imperative to the growth of our dancers. Attendance is especially important in the winter months when we begin choreography for our recital. The absence of one dancer affects the entire group. If any dancer misses an exceptional amount of classes we reserve the right to remove them from the class. Please make every effort to attend each class. Doctor’s notes are helpful for teachers to understand the severity of a dancer’s injury or illness and are encouraged when students are absent for these reasons. Attending and participating in Dress Rehearsal is mandatory in order to perform in the Recital.
